Mohali, August 5, 2022:
The Senior Vets Association, in a meeting held here on Friday, urged the Punjab CM and Animal Husbandry Minister to allocate liberal funds to the animal husbandry department in order to bring Lumpy skin disease in cattle under control in the Punjab State.
Former Joint Director Animal Husbandry Punjab and member Punjab State Veterinary Council Dr Gurinder Singh Walia said that as per reports, LSD had spread across the state, due to which the dairy farmers had suffered collosal loss in the form of mortality and morbidity of livestock besides production losses. The Punjab Government must compensate the farmers in this natural calamity and form a committee of experts
to chalk out a concrete plan to contain the spread of this contagious disease.
Former Director Animal Husbandry Punjab Dr Sanjeev Khosla and former CEO, Punjab Gau Sewa Commission Dr Nitin Kumar lamented that funds allotted to the districts for treatment were too meager, as for treating an Animal at least Rupees 1000/- was required and five lac was enough for 500 animals only. Hence this was paltry and inadequate.
Joint Director and Principal, Govt Veterinary Polytechnic, Kaljharani Dr Bimal Sharma quipped that government must release ample funds and ban the import- export and movement of animals. He called upon the farmers to use measures to ward off flies, mosquitoes and other insects from their dairy farms and to ban the entry of strangers.
Prominent among others present in the meeting were Dr Madhukesh Palta, Dr Raghunandan Sharma, Dr Ramesh Sofat and Dr KPS Pasricha.
