Light points of Mohali city will be converted into roundabouts: DC Amit Talwar
Said, Roundabout proposed to be built by March next year

In order to solve the increasing traffic problems in Mohali and to reduce the number of road accidents, the Punjab government is converting the light points in the city of Mohali into roundabouts. Deputy Commissioner Amit Talwar held a meeting with GMADA, Municipal Corporation, RTA, Police, Road Safety Engineer at the District Administrative Complex today to take stock of the preparations being made in this regard.
Giving more information in this regard, Deputy Commissioner said that the traffic on the roads of Mohali city is increasing day by day and the number of accidents on the roads is increasing.
He said that under a multifaceted plan by the Punjab government to solve the traffic problem, the light points of the city of Mohali are being changed into roundabouts. He said that GMADA is preparing a proposal in this regard with the help of traffic advisor of Punjab government and technical advisor of GMADA. He said that the government is planning to construct these roundabouts by the end of March next year.
The Deputy Commissioner informed that for the solution to the problem of increasing traffic on the Airport Road (PR 7), the Traffic Advisor of the Punjab Government will conduct a survey and submit appropriate recommendations. He also instructed the Municipal Corporation officials present in the meeting to synchronize the lights at the airport so that the traffic going to the airport does not have to stop for a long time at any light point.
It is pertinent to mention that recently Punjab Housing and Urban Development Minister, Aman Arora, on the demand of local MLA Kulwant Singh, held a meeting at the office of GMADA to improve the city's infrastructure, roads, traffic and other civic facilities. In this meeting, Deputy Commissioner SAS was instructed by the Minister Aman Arora to hold a meeting with the concerned authorities for appropriate solutions to traffic problems and to reduce road accidents. Following these orders, today's meeting has been held by the DC.
In this meeting, besides others, Additional Deputy Commissioner Amaninder Kaur Brar, Assistant Commissioner Tarsem Chand, District Town Planner Gurdev Singh, Secretary RTA Pardeep Singh Dhillon, Road Safety Engineer Charanjeet, technical advisor of GMADA, officials of Municipal Corporation were also present.
