Under Nav-Bharat Sakhar program, persons with tools in hands given pens, 6000 non-literates appear in exam
Fazilka, September 25, 2023: As many as 6000 non-literates of district Fazilka took the exam today under Nav-Bharat Sakhar program. Due to school heads and teachers, the illiterate people were stopped from working and their examination was taken. A strange sight was seen when the mason arrived with tools like 'tesia, kandis and kahia' in their hands, then the headmasters started the paper with sips of hot tea and laddoos.
Government of India has approved a new Centrally Sponsored Scheme “Nav Bharat Saksharta Program for the period FYs 2022-2027 to cover all the aspects of Education For All (erstwhile termed as Adult Education) to align with National Education Policy 2020.
The examinees who came to take the exam were from 15 to 75-80 years old and were in full enthusiasm, they were also seen thanking the senior teachers and school heads because it is a very good thing to resume education and socialize with the workers. They all love to read and write with respect.
The spokesperson of the Education Department, Principal Hans Raj, while giving information, said that the Education Department Punjab and SCERT on the guidelines of District Education Officer Under the leadership of Dr. Sukhbir Singh Bal, the first examination of illiterate people was conducted at 230 examination centers across the district, the school principals were appointed as exam controllers and the school staff took this examination, about 6000 illiterate people appeared for the examination. The time of the examination has been kept from 10 to 5 pm, the non-literates did not come to the examination center rather for their convenience, this exam has been conducted at a common place in the village.
DIET Principal Dr. Rachna thanked the district education officer and all the principals and head teachers of the district and said that it was a big and difficult task which has been successfully completed, so everyone deserves congratulations. Coordinator Sikander Singh worked hard day and night to carry out this task, and no difficulty was faced during the examination. The old men coming from the examination centers with papers were looking very happy and were also discussing that the map of the schools has been changed, we should also wash away the stigma of being uneducated.
