Nawanshahr, May 26, 2024: In an election meeting held at Nawanshahr, senior Shiromani Akali Dal leader and Lok Sabha candidate from Sri Anandpur Sahib, Prof. Prem Singh Chandumajra, addressed critical regional issues affecting Punjab.
Speaking under the leadership of constituency in-charge Jarnail Singh Wahid, Prof. Chandumajra highlighted the historical sacrifices of Punjab and expressed concerns over current policies affecting the state.
Prof. Chandumajra emphasized Punjab's significant contributions during the partition and its pivotal role in resolving India's food crisis.
He criticized the Congress government for failing to reorganize Punjab on linguistic lines post-independence and accused them of betraying the state by violating riparian laws, which led to the diversion of Punjab's water resources to neighboring states.
He further warned Punjabis about the Aam Aadmi Party's alleged plans to divert Punjab's drinking water to other states. According to Prof. Chandumajra, the state government is manipulating statistics to falsely claim that Punjab's farms receive 100 percent canal water, a move he attributes to Chief Minister Mann's collaboration with the Centre.
He accused the government of coercing patwaris into generating incorrect data, which he believes will weaken Punjab's position in the ongoing Sutlej Yamuna Link (SYL) Canal case in the Supreme Court.
Prof. Chandumajra expressed grave concern over the disappearance of nearly 17,000 canals from Punjab, contrasting this with the government's claims ofcomprehensive water supply.
He warned that such mismanagement would have dire consequences for the state, particularly for its farmers, whose livelihoods are directly tied to water availability.
He reaffirmed the Shiromani Akali Dal's commitment to defending Punjab's rights, vowing that its representatives would vigorously advocate for the state's interests in Parliament.
The event saw significant participation from senior leaders and workers, including Halka Incharge Jarnail Singh Wahid, Joint Halka Incharge Tara Singh Sheikhupur, SGPC Vice President Gurbaksh Singh Khalsa, and District Urban President Himat Kumar Bobby, among others. Their presence underscored the party's united front in addressing Punjab's pressing issues.
