Vet Varsity starts mega plantation drive under 'Wake-Up Ludhiana'

Ludhiana, July 12, 2024: In a concerted effort to enhance environmental sustainability, the officers and faculty of Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Ludhiana launched a comprehensive tree plantation campaign today.
The drive was initiated under “Wake Up Ludhiana” with the aim ˝Combating Climate Change by Promoting Green Cover and Biodiversity˝.
The event commenced with a ceremonial tree planting by Dr. Inderjeet Singh, Vice-Chancellor, and Sh. Rajesh Gulati, PFS, Divisional Forest Officer, Ludhiana emphasized the pivotal role of universities in fostering ecological responsibility.
Dr. Singh highlighted the urgent need for collective action of everybody in increasing the green cover, thereby, mitigating the climate impacts of the state.He suggested that we all should take proactive steps to preserve our planet for future generations.
Rajesh Gulati, Guest of Honour, appreciated the drive undertaken by the university and was delighted to see such fervent participation of the university officials, staff, and students in this noble cause under the aegis of “Wake-Up Ludhiana” being spearheaded by Sakshi Sawhney, IAS, Deputy Commissioner, Ludhiana.
Dr. J.P.S. Gill, Director of Students' Welfare cum Estate Officer told that this plantation drive will be spanned across various locations of the university campus, with the participants planting a diverse array of more than 1000 native saplings received from the nurseries falling under District Forest Department.Volunteers of the NSS wing of the varsity also planted saplings at different locations of the Campus.
Dr. Inderjeet Singh and Dr. JPS Gill also agreed to develop and beautify the university campus by the establishment of a ˝Nanak Bagichi˝ (under the Miyawaki Forest Model) as proposed by Sh. Rajesh Gulati, DFO, and Kamalpreet Singh, Range Officer.
They also underscored the educational significance of this initiative and emphasized that beyond its environmental benefits, this upcoming initiative will also serve as a valuable educational opportunity where the students shall get first-hand experience about the impact of such initiative on our ecosystem.
Dr. J.P.S. Gill congratulated the whole team of Landscape Wing of the university for their sincerely planned and committed efforts in the organization of the event and thanked all the participants who turned out to make this event a grand success.
