MP Ghubaya reviews ongoing work at PGI Satellaite Centre in Ferozepur
Ferozepur, July 22, 2024:The ongoing construction work at PGI Satellite Centre in Ferozeur was reviewed by Ferozepur MP Sher Singh Ghubaya. He was accompanied by former MLA Parminder Singh Pinki and other Congress workers during his visit to Ferozepur to assess the construction progress.
Spread over 27 acres, the PGI centre will have a total of 100 beds, 565 staffers, including doctors, paramedics and other administrative personnel. In February 2024, Prime Minister had laid the foundation stone of this project virtually after his convoy was blocked by protesting farmers on January 5, 2022, due to which he had to return from the outskirts of the city.
MP Sher Singh Ghubaya said, .the OPD serviced will be started in the center by January next. He said, he is also planning to advocate for the establishment of a PGI satellite center as well as a medical college and a nursing college in Parliament.
Ghubaya further said, the PGI satellite center is the gift of the Congress government. The project was approved in 2012 under the Manmohan Singh government, but its construction was delayed due to political hurdles. Now, when the work is progressing rapidly, it is expected that the OPD will be operational by January next.
He said, the Ferozepur is a border region deprived of medical facilities, will benefit from this development, as its residents will not need to travel to Chandigarh for treatment.
Former MLA Parminder Singh Pinki said that after a long delay, the construction is now progressing speedily. The project was initially approved with a budget of Rs 500 crore and 100 beds, which will now be expanded into a Rs 4000 crore. Apart from the OPD, the project will also include a medical college and a nursing college. The introduction of these facilities will ensure that the people of Ferozepur and nearby areas no longer need to travel to Chandigarh for medical care. Adding he said, the langar services will also be available for those accompanying patients at the holy shrine near Jamani Sahib Gurdwara.
