Vigilance Bureau arrests PSPCL private contractor taking Rs. 20,000 bribe as first instalment
Accused demanded Rs 80,000 for facilitating in getting tubewell connection

Chandigarh August 5, 2024 The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB), during its ongoing campaign against corruption in the state, on Monday has arrested Amrit Pal alias Kaddu, a private contractor for the PSPCL office Maur in Bathinda district red handed while he was accepting a bribe of Rs. 20,000 in the PSPCL Grid, at Maur.
Disclosing this here today an official spokesperson of the state VB said the above mentioned accused has been arrested based on a complaint lodged by Nikki Kaur, a resident of village Kuttiwal Khurd in Bathinda district.
He further informed that the complainant has approached the VB and alleged that the said accused had demanded a bribe of Rs 80,000 to facilitate in getting tubewell connection for her agriculture land by assuring that he has good connections with the officials posted in the PSPCL office being a contractor.
She further alleged that the accused had demanded Rs 30,000 in advance and rest of the money after installation of power connection.
The spokesperson further added that after a preliminary enquiry of this complaint, the VB team laid a trap and the accused contractor was arrested red handed while he was accepting a bribe of Rs 20,000 as a first instalment from the complainant in the presence of two official witnesses.
He further informed that in this regard a case under prevention of corruption act has been registered at VB police station Bathinda range.
The accused would be produced in the competent court tomorrow and role of concerned employees of the PSPCL office Maur would be probed during the further investigation.
