GDNU conducts fruit tree plantation drive

Amritsar, August 12, 2024: Department of Botanical and Environmental Sciences of Guru Nanak Dev University organized a fruit tree plantation drive, the Faculty, Non-Teaching Staff and Students and Research Scholars of the department planted and adopted more than 40 saplings of fruit trees in front of the Department.
The event was organized to create awareness among the masses to plant fruit trees for good health, to save the microbiome, birds, and insect diversity.
The soil of Punjab is suitable for growth of Mango, Litchi, Guava, Pomegranate, Papaya, Anjeer, Sapota, Grapes, and Citrus fruit varieties. This drive will also motivate farmers to adopt sustainable agricultural practices in Punjab.
In this event, Prof. Rajinder Kaur, Head explained the importance of growing fruit trees to students and research scholars.Shaukat research scholar of the department assisted the students for the plantation.
The faculty members of the Department viz. Prof. Satwinderjeet Kaur, Prof. M.S. Bhatti, Dr. Astha Bhatia, Dr. Nitika Kapoor, Dr. Mayank D. Dwivedi, Ms. Jyoti Kalyani, Dr. Kirandeep Dhami, Dr. Mahak Taneja, and Dr. Kritika Pandit along with non-teaching staff also participated in the plantation drive.
