Dr.Parveen Chhuneja becomes first woman scientist from PAU to win prestigious INSA Fellowship

Ludhiana, October 4, 2024: Dr Parveen C.hhuneja, a distinguished scientist at Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), has scripted history by becoming the first woman from the University to be awarded the prestigious Fellowship of the Indian National Science Academy (INSA).This honor recognizes her exceptional contributions to the field of agricultural biotechnology.
This achievement also marked a remarkable milestone in her career, as now she held fellowships from three of India's leading scientific academies: INSA, the National Academy of Agricultural Sciences (NAAS), and the National Academy of Sciences, India (NASI).
With this, she was the first scientist at PAU, across all the present faculties, to earn these three highly respected fellowships in just three years.
Dr Chhuneja has also received numerous accolades, both nationally and internationally, for her pioneering work in wheat research. Internationally, she was awarded the “Gene Stewardship Team Award” and the “Jeanie Borlaug Laube Women in Triticum (WIT) Mentor Award” by the Borlaug Global Rust Initiative.
Nationally, she has been honored with the “Dr Darshan Singh Brar Award” in Agriculture and the “Outstanding Woman Scientist Awards” by both the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) and the Society for Wheat and Barley Research. Further, PAU has also recognized her outstanding contributions by bestowing upon her the “Dr Gurdev Singh Khush Distinguished Professor Award,” and Merit and Plaque as the Best Researcher.
The PAU Vice-Chancellor Dr Satbir Singh Gosal and the Director of Research Dr Ajmer Singh Dhatt congratulated Dr Chhuneja for her notable achievement, thus, bringing great honour to the University.
