Dallewal's hunger strike enters 50th Day; Farmers’ protest intensifies with 111 to join indefinite fast
Ferozepur/Khanauri Border, January 15: Farmer leader Jagjit Singh Dallewal's hunger strike reached its 50th day today, and his health is reportedly deteriorating. In a show of solidarity and to intensify the ongoing agitation, 111 farmers are set to begin an indefinite fast at the Khanauri border today, according to farmer leader Abhimanyu Kohar.
Both the farmer outfits, Samyukt Kisan Morcha (Non-Political) and Kisan Mazdoor Morcha, have joined hands and decided not to make any adverse statements about each other.
The protest revolves around long-standing farmer demands, including a robust Minimum Support Price (MSP) guarantee and better agricultural policies.
Meanwhile, Punjab BJP Chief Sunil Jakhar’s recent statement suggesting that the MSP might not benefit Punjab’s farmers has sparked outrage among farmer unions. Leaders have accused Jakhar of attempting to mislead the farming community, further straining relations between the state’s farmers and the ruling party.
Congress MP Dharamvira Gandhi has endorsed Dallewal, criticizing the government's "adamant attitude" and urging immediate resolution to the farmers' grievances.
The protestors have appealed to the government to initiate meaningful dialogue and address their concerns to prevent further escalation.
