Chandigarh, March 26, 2025:
Punjab Transport and Jails Minister Laljit Singh Bhullar said that the budget presented by the Punjab government will further accelerate the holistic development of the state.
In a statement issued here today, the Cabinet Minister lauded the budget and said that the state has been moving forward on the path of development for the last three years, with the total budget expenditure for the financial year 2025-2026 proposed at Rs. 2,36,080 crore. He emphasized that the Punjab Budget introduces the concept of revitalizing rural Punjab, ensuring the all-around development of villages.
The Cabinet Minister highlighted that the budget proposes the purchase of 347 e-buses. This initiative will not only establish an environment-friendly public transport system but also reduce dependence on private vehicles.
Laljit Singh Bhullar also noted that Rs. 100 crore has been proposed for the construction, renovation, and upgradation of jail infrastructure in Punjab. The state has implemented key security and rehabilitation measures to enhance jail management and prisoner welfare. AI-powered CCTV surveillance is being installed in central jails to detect and prevent illegal activities, while V-cams are being expanded in 12 sensitive jails.
He praised the ‘Rangla Punjab Development Scheme,’ under which a provision of Rs. 585 crore has been made. This fund will be utilized for essential public needs based on citizens' recommendations, ensuring comprehensive development, including the construction and repair of roads and bridges, street lights, clinics, hospitals, schools, water, and sanitation.
Laljit Singh Bhullar further asserted that the proposals in the Punjab Budget 2025-2026 will steer the state towards progress and contribute to its economic growth. He expressed confidence that the budget will bring positive reforms, strengthening the foundation of a prosperous and self-reliant Punjab.
