Haryana Govt to boost natural farming with certification, branding and market linkages

Chandigarh, March 27, 2025 – Haryana Agriculture and Farmers' Welfare Minister Shyam Singh Rana announced that the state government is committed to promoting natural farming through a structured two-phase approach. In the first phase, the focus is on awareness and training programs for farmers and officials.
The second phase will involve certification, branding, packaging, and marketing of natural farming products to ensure better prices for farmers.
Speaking in the Haryana Assembly on a Calling Attention Motion regarding the importance of natural farming, Minister Rana stated that HAFED and Haryana Agro Industries Corporation (HAIC) will be linked with Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs) and Natural Farming Groups to facilitate better market access.

Certification & Pricing Support

- The Haryana State Seed Certification Agency has been designated for certification of natural farming products.
- A committee has been formed to explore MSP fixation or compensation for yield losses during the initial transition to natural farming.
Training & Awareness Campaigns

- The state government launched the Natural Farming Scheme in 2022-23 under the Sustainable Agriculture Strategic Initiatives and Farmers' Welfare Fund to promote chemical-free farming.
- 720 farmer meetings, 22 workshops, and one state-level fair have been organized, benefiting over 35,000 farmers.
- Four training centers at Gurukul-Kurukshetra, Hameti-Jind, Gharaunda-Karnal, and Mangiana-Sirsa have trained 9,707 farmers and officials since 2022.
- 6,234 village Sarpanches have received online training from Hameti-Jind.

Farmer Participation & Support

- 1.77 lakh farmers have registered for natural farming on the Prakritik Kheti portal for 2.63 lakh acres of farmland.
- 10,474 farmers have been verified, covering 16,800 acres.
- Farmers receive ₹3,000 for drum purchases to store/process raw materials.
- Native cow subsidy increased from ₹25,000 to ₹30,000 per acre from 2025.

Financial Support & National Initiatives

- ₹14.77 crore has been disbursed since 2022, including ₹1.23 crore for purchasing 492 desi cows and ₹75 lakh for drums to 2,500 farmers.
- The National Mission on Natural Farming (NMNF) has been launched with a ₹39.7 crore budget, emphasizing awareness, cluster formation, and community resource persons (Krishi Sakhis).
- Gurukul-Kurukshetra and Hameti-Jind have been designated as Centers of Natural Farming (CONF) under NMNF.
- The Government of India has planned two Indian Natural Bio-Input Resource Centers to promote bio-fertilizers.
Ambitious Target for 2025-26
The state has set a target of 1 lakh acres under natural farming in the 2025-26 budget, reinforcing its commitment to sustainable agriculture and farmers’ welfare.
Minister Rana reaffirmed that the Haryana government is making every effort to improve farmers' incomes, protect soil health, and ensure a healthy future for the state through natural and chemical-free farming initiatives.
