In a major crackdown under the ongoing anti-drug campaign, Gurdaspur Police, with the support of the district administration, carried out a bulldozer action on Wednesday to demolish two illegally constructed houses belonging to known drug smugglers in village Dida Sansian. The houses had been built on government land belonging to the Canal Department.
The demolition drive began at 11:00 am and was jointly led by SSP Gurdaspur Aditya (IPS), SDM Dinanagar Jaspinder Singh Bhullar (IAS), and SP Jugraj Singh. Duty Magistrate Naib Tehsildar Dalwinder Singh, along with senior officials from the Canal Department, were also present at the site.
SSP Aditya revealed that the Water Resources Department had submitted a formal report to the police, identifying two individuals—Baljinder and Lakhwinder—for illegal encroachment on canal land. Upon investigation, police confirmed that both men were habitual drug offenders. Baljinder had 10 cases registered against him under the NDPS and Excise Acts, while Lakhwinder was facing 12 such cases.
"The Punjab Government has adopted a zero-tolerance policy against drug trafficking. Today’s action in Dida Sansian is a firm message that drug smugglers will not be spared," said SSP Aditya. He added that the anti-drug campaign launched under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann will continue with full force.
Residents of the area gathered at the site during the demolition and welcomed the action, applauding the efforts of the police and the administration.
Also present during the operation were DSP Dinanagar Rajinder Manhas, DSP Gurdaspur Sukhraj Singh, and a large contingent of police personnel.
