Chandigarh, July 8, 2025 –
In a bid to enhance public safety and preserve city infrastructure, the Municipal Corporation Chandigarh (MCC) has carried out a special drive across multiple areas, particularly in colony zones, to remove ropes and other obstructions tied to street light poles by residents for drying clothes and other personal uses.
The MCC teams not only removed these hazardous ropes—which posed serious electrical safety risks due to their proximity to live wires—but also conducted awareness drives, sensitizing residents about the dangers of misusing street lighting infrastructure. Similar operations were conducted in EWS Colonies and adjoining sectors.
During the operation, cycles, rehri carts, and chain-locked items affixed to street light poles were also removed as they were causing obstructions and potential safety hazards in public spaces.
Municipal Commissioner Amit Kumar, IAS, appealed to citizens to cooperate with the civic body and avoid using public infrastructure for personal purposes. He stressed the need to adhere to safety norms to prevent accidents and ensure the efficient upkeep of city infrastructure.
