Ludhiana (Punjab), September 6 , 2025– Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) media panellist and former councillor Parminder Mehta on Thursday announced his resignation from both his post and the party, citing the Union government’s alleged indifference to the ongoing flood crisis in Punjab.
Mehta said Punjab is facing one of its worst floods in more than a decade, yet the Centre’s response has been “apathetic.” He accused the government of adopting a “stepmotherly attitude” towards the state at a time when thousands of families were struggling with widespread destruction.
“Punjab’s people, farmers, and volunteers are doing everything in their capacity to help flood victims, but the Centre has failed to stand with the state in its hour of need,” Mehta said.
He also raised concerns about the worsening conditions in border districts adjoining Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand. He expressed that the Union government should have acted promptly during the initial days of the crisis and extended full support to “the nation’s food bowl.”
Expressing disappointment, Mehta contrasted the Centre’s silence on Punjab’s losses with its immediate condolences and outreach during disasters elsewhere. “It is heartbreaking that even after Punjab suffered massive crop damage worth crores, homes collapsed, livestock perished, and lives were lost, not a single word of sympathy came from the Centre,” he remarked.
