Chandigarh, September 7, 2025: Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh and Punjab Panchayat Minister Tarunpreet Singh Sond on Sunday visited flood-affected border villages in Fazilka district, where they personally distributed relief material to residents of Gulaba Bhaini village.
Addressing the media, Sanjay Singh said Punjab has been battling devastating floods for nearly a month, yet the Centre is still waiting for reports instead of announcing immediate relief. He expressed hope that during his visit to Punjab on September 9, the Prime Minister would announce a substantial relief package for the affected people.
He also urged the Centre to immediately release the pending ₹60,000 crore due to Punjab under RDF, GST, and other heads, a demand earlier raised by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann. Singh reminded that although the Union Agriculture Minister had previously visited Punjab, no financial relief has been provided so far.
Panchayat Minister Tarunpreet Singh Sond, who is overseeing relief operations in Fazilka for the past three days, dedicated his birthday today to the service of flood-affected people. He personally carried relief bags on his shoulders to hand over supplies to residents.
Sond added that as water levels recede, the administration is preparing for fresh challenges such as the spread of waterborne diseases and assessment of damages. He assured that medical teams, veterinary units, and district officials are actively working in the affected villages to ensure that every person in need receives timely relief.
