Every flood victim to get relief: MoS Sanjay Sethi, Ferozepur DC sets flood relief disbursal by Oct 20
Ferozepur, October 5, 2025: Union Minister of State for Defence, Sanjay Seth, assured that the Central Government will extend full support for the rehabilitation, relief, and reconstruction works in flood-affected areas of Punjab.
During a review meeting with district officials in Ferozepur, the Minister discussed relief measures, rehabilitation of displaced families, and the restoration of damaged infrastructure. The meeting was attended by Deputy Commissioner Deepshikha Sharma, SSP Bhupinder Singh Sidhu, and former Punjab Cabinet Minister Rana Gurmit Singh Sodhi, among others.
MoS for Defence, Seth directed officials to ensure immediate assistance to all affected people, speedy disbursal of compensation, and availability of seeds, fertilizers, and medical facilities in affected areas. He emphasized that no flood victim should be left without relief.
Highlighting the Centre’s commitment, he stated that under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Ministers have been regularly visiting flood-hit regions to monitor the situation. He informed that the Central Government has already released ₹1,600 crore for flood relief and assured continued assistance for rehabilitation.
Deputy Commissioner Deepshikha Sharma briefed that 113 villages, 38,614 people, and 38,400 acres of crops in the district were affected, with two human lives and 76 cattle lost. She added that a complete damage survey will be finished by October 10, and compensation distribution will begin from October 11, with 100% disbursal targeted by October 20.
The Minister appreciated the joint efforts of the Army, NDRF, BSF, Punjab Police, NGOs, and district administration in saving lives and providing relief during the disaster. He lauded Punjab for always standing strong with the nation and assured that the nation, in turn, stands firmly with Punjab in this hour of crisis.
Later, addressing to the media persons, Sanjay Seth said that whosoever is a flood victim must receive adequate relief and compensation to bring back cheer on their faces. He stressed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is the only leader who considers all 140 crore Indians as one family and has promised full support to Punjab in this hour of crisis.
Calling the floods a massive natural calamity, he urged that this is not the time to raise disputes over land ownership, but to ensure timely help for every affected person. He emphasized that the government will continue its efforts until every family feels secure and reassured.
He also mentioned that after the completion of surveys, large-scale tube well boring would be taken up to restore livelihoods, as future generations will not forgive negligence in such times. He informed that health camps are being organized regularly, people from other states are equally concerned, and the Prime Minister has promised to fulfill every assurance given.
