Dera Bassi (Punjab), October 10, 2025: Setting an example of compassion and social responsibility, senior BJP leader and social worker Gurdarshan Singh Saini from Derabassi constituency celebrated his birthday in a unique and humanitarian way.
Instead of hosting a party or celebration, Saini dedicated the day to public service, announcing assistance for underprivileged families to replace thatched roofs and build proper houses in several villages of his constituency.

Saini said he consciously chose not to hold any festive event, noting that the past month had brought sorrow to Punjab with the passing of several noted personalities — comedian Jaswinder Bhalla, music legend Charanjit Ahuja, singers Rajvir Jawanda and Gurmeet Mann, Algoza player Karamjit Singh Bagga, and actor Varinder Ghuman. “This is a time for empathy and service, not celebration,” he said, emphasizing that true joy lies in helping others.
He announced that families from ten villages, including Rajomajra, Mahi Wala, Amalala, Broli, Handeshra, Dangdehra, Sadhapur, Tiwana, and Khajurmandi, will receive sand and cement to rebuild and strengthen their homes. “My goal is that no family in Derabassi should have to live under a thatched roof,” Saini stated.
Marking the occasion, he also distributed ration kits to needy families and planted saplings to promote environmental conservation.
