Patiala (Punjab), October 15, 2025: The Advisory Committee of the historic Shri Kali Devi Temple, Patiala, announced that the foundation stone for the temple’s much-awaited redevelopment will be laid on October 27, marking a new chapter in the preservation of one of North India’s most revered spiritual landmarks. The ceremony will be conducted with full religious traditions and rituals.
At a press conference, committee members CA Ajay Alipuria, Sanjay Singla, Dr. Raj Kumar Gupta, and ADC (General)-cum-CEO Simarpreet Kaur shared details of the initiative, which follows announcements by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann and AAP national convener Arvind Kejriwal regarding the temple’s revival and modernization. They confirmed that the master plan and architectural designs have been finalized, and the redevelopment will officially commence on October 27.
CA Ajay Alipuria revealed that after nearly 30 years, the temple’s sacred pond will once again be refilled with fresh water, restoring its traditional and spiritual essence. “Ninety percent of the new pipeline work is complete, and subsequent waterproofing, stone lining, and walkway improvements are planned,” he said. The temple’s sewerage system upgrade is also in progress, and an Aam Aadmi Clinic will soon be opened to provide healthcare services to devotees.
The committee stated that a comprehensive master plan, developed with input from urban planners and religious scholars, focuses on heritage conservation, improved pilgrim amenities, sanitation, parking, and traffic management. The redevelopment project aims to transform Shri Kali Devi Temple into a grand spiritual complex that preserves Punjab’s cultural identity and reconnects the youth with their heritage.
Committee members Sanjay Singla and Dr. Raj Kumar Gupta noted that Navratri arrangements this year were exceptionally managed, with daily havan rituals available to all devotees through a free booking system. They lauded Mayor Kundan Gogiya, Deputy Commissioner Dr. Preeti Yadav, SSP Varun Sharma, and ADC Simarpreet Kaur for their administrative efficiency during the festival, which saw over one lakh devotees partake in the langar (community meal).
ADC Simarpreet Kaur informed that security arrangements within and around the temple have been strengthened, with special monitoring to curb the activities of mischief-makers and pickpockets.
