SGGS World University conference spotlights languages and social sciences on Day 2
Fatehgarh Sahib, November 6, 2025:
The second day of Sri Guru Granth Sahib World University’s three-day Third International Conference on “Sri Guru Granth Sahib: A Multi-Disciplinary Perspective,” held in collaboration with the Sikh Education Council (UK), featured focused deliberations in languages and social sciences, with scholars presenting work on the scripture’s spiritual, literary, linguistic and sociological dimensions.
Eminent participants included Member Trust Advocate Amardeep Singh Dharni; Prof Satnam Singh Sandhu (retired), Punjabi University, Patiala; Prof Swaraj Raj, Professor Emeritus of English; Prof Daljeet Singh, Punjabi University, Patiala; Dr Jaswant Singh, Director, Sikh Research Institute; and Harvinder Singh from the Sikh Education Council (UK), who underlined the universality of the Guru’s message and its relevance to ethics, education and social harmony.
Guests were felicitated by Dr Sikander Singh (Head, Punjabi; Dean, Students’ Welfare), Dr Harneet Billing (Head, Education), Dr Ankdeep Kaur Attwal (Head, English; Director, IQAC), Dr Nav Shagandeep Kaur (Head, Social Sciences) and Dr Harpreet Kaur (Department of Punjabi).
The proceedings reinforced the conference’s multidisciplinary thrust, bridging traditional religious studies with contemporary academic discourse and highlighting the University’s commitment to interfaith dialogue, cultural understanding and research excellence.
Co-convener Dr Hardev Singh, Dean, Faculty of Religious Studies, said the event will conclude tomorrow with two technical sessions on religious studies, science and engineering, followed by a valedictory ceremony.
