Moga-based officer allegedly demanded Rs 20,000; VB SAS Nagar lays trap, FIR under PC Act

The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) on Thursday arrested ASI Ragwinder Prasad, posted at Police Station Kot Ise Khan in Moga district, after he was caught red-handed accepting a bribe of Rs 5,000 from a complainant from Malout, Sri Muktsar Sahib, a VB spokesperson said.
According to the VB, a case had been registered against the complainant’s relatives at Kot Ise Khan police station, and the investigating officer, ASI Prasad, allegedly demanded Rs 20,000 for extending undue favour in the matter. On November 6, the accused purportedly called the complainant via WhatsApp to the Judicial Complex in Moga, where he took Rs 5,000.
Acting on the complaint, a VB team from SAS Nagar laid a trap and apprehended the ASI while accepting Rs 5,000 in the presence of two official witnesses.
A case under relevant sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered at the VB Police Station, SAS Nagar. The accused will be produced before a competent court on Friday. Further investigation is underway, the spokesperson added.
