Punjab launches Pensioner Sewa Mela to fast-track portal registration: Cheema
Three-day drive across districts; 3-month target for state pensioners; helplines active for on-spot support
Babushahi Bureau
SAS Nagar, November 13, 2025:
Punjab Finance Minister Advocate Harpal Singh Cheema on Thursday launched a three-day Pensioner Sewa Mela to accelerate registration of state pensioners on the new Pensioner Sewa Portal, setting a three-month target to complete the exercise. The mela, scheduled from November 13 to 15, is being held across all districts to assist pensioners with on-spot registration.
Cheema said over 5,000 pensioners registered on the first day across the state. To ensure smooth facilitation, officials from the Finance Department and pension disbursing banks are stationed at district venues to resolve technical issues. Continuous support will remain available through District Treasury Offices, pension disbursing banks, Sewa Kendras, and Sewa Kendra home-delivery services. Pension disbursements will continue uninterrupted even if any pensioner faces technical difficulties during registration, he added.
Launched on November 3, the Pensioner Sewa Portal aims to deliver key pension services at home. Initial services include:
-
Submission of Digital Life Certificate via the Jeevan Pramaan mobile app.
-
Application for conversion of pension to family pension.
-
Leave Travel Concession (LTC) requests.
-
Registration of pension-related grievances.
-
Updating or changing personal details.
The minister clarified that Non-Resident Indian (NRI) pensioners are excluded from the initial rollout and will continue to submit Life Certificates via existing procedures, with comparable digital services to be introduced soon. The Directorate of Treasuries and Accounts has set up a dedicated War Room for Pension and the New Pension Scheme, and activated three helplines—1800-180-2148, 0172-2996385, and 0172-2996386—operational from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm on working days.
MLA Kulwant Singh (Mohali), Deputy Commissioner Komal Mittal, Chief Minister’s Field Officer Gurmeet Singh, Additional Director (Treasuries) Simarjeet Kaur, and District Treasury Officer Renuka Katyal were present at the launch.
