Punjab releases Rs 68.98 crore to upgrade four Govt Medical Colleges

Chandigarh, December 23, 2025: The Punjab government has ordered the immediate release of ₹68.98 crore for infrastructure upgrades and procurement of medical equipment at four government medical colleges in the state.
The decision was taken during a review meeting of the Medical Education and Research Department chaired by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, who directed officials to ensure prompt utilisation of the funds to improve treatment and diagnostic facilities.
According to the allocation, Government Medical College, Amritsar will receive ₹26.53 crore, Government Medical College, Patiala ₹28.51 crore, Dr BR Ambedkar Institute of Medical Sciences, SAS Nagar (Mohali) ₹9.43 crore, and PGI Satellite Centre, Ferozepur ₹4.51 crore.
Officials said the funds will be used for development works and the purchase of modern medical machinery and equipment. The Chief Minister also instructed that the upgradation work be completed within a fixed timeframe to ensure early availability of improved healthcare services.
Senior officials, including the Chief Secretary and senior health department officers, were present at the meeting.
