Chandigarh, December 26, 2025: The Enforcement Branch of the Municipal Corporation (MC) Chandigarh has intensified its anti-encroachment drive across various parts of the city to ensure smooth pedestrian movement, unobstructed roads and strict adherence to civic regulations.
Between December 1 and December 25, 2025, enforcement teams conducted regular as well as special drives, during which a total of 2,781 challans were issued to violators found encroaching on public land in violation of municipal laws.
The Commissioner, Municipal Corporation Chandigarh, has directed that all illegal vendors operating in the city be removed and has made it clear that no leniency will be shown towards those flouting civic norms. All registered street vendors have been instructed to remove their articles, equipment and tarpaulins from their designated vending sites immediately after permitted vending hours.
However, following requests from representatives of registered street vendors, the Municipal Corporation has granted a seven-day relaxation period up to January 1, 2026, allowing vendors time to remove their belongings and tarpaulins from registered vending sites after 10:00 pm. The authorities clarified that after January 1, any articles, equipment or tarpaulins found at vending sites beyond 10:00 pm will be removed by the Enforcement Branch without any further notice.
Additionally, all registered street vendors who are not vending from their allotted sites have been directed to operate strictly from their designated vending locations with immediate effect.
Alongside routine enforcement action, special drives are also being carried out to remove temporary encroachments and to maintain cleanliness, safety and orderliness in public spaces across the city.
The Municipal Corporation Chandigarh has appealed to street vendors and the general public to extend full cooperation in this initiative aimed at improving civic amenities and ensuring compliance with established municipal regulations
