Anandpur Sahib, 26 December 2025- In line with the Union government decision to observe on 26th December at the national level as martyrdom day to honor the valour and courage of Chhote Sahibzades of Guru Gobind Singh, MP Satnam Singh Sandhu organised Adhuti Sahadat Samagam at Sri Ananadpur Sahib in association with Sant Samaj of Punjab at Virasat-e-Khalsa in Anandpur Sahib, as a fitting tribute to the Lasani Sahaadat (unparalleled sacrifice) of the Sahibzades by bringing together prominent personalities from all sects of Sikhs and confer awards on Sikh children for their exceptional achievements in various fields and performance in cultural and religious activities related to Sikhism.
Besides Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha) Satnam Singh Sandhu, this ‘Adutti Sahadat Samagam’ was attended by attended by religious gurus, spiritual gurus, Members of Sant Samaj, Sikh preachers, entrepreneurs, heads of various Gurdwara Parbandhak Committees, members of Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) and Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGPC) in large numbers, educationists and film actors.
During this Congregation which was attended by all sects of Sikhs including Udasis, Nirankaris, Namdharis, Nirmalas, Nanakpanthis, and Radha Soamis, competitions of traditional cultural and religious activities associated with the Sikh community including Gatka, Gurbani Kirtan, Kaveeshri, Dhadi Vaar, and debate were held between top teams selected from across Punjab through similar competitions held across the state over the past one month ahead of the ‘Adutti Sahadat Samagam’. The winners were given awards in various categories after the final performances today.
During the ‘Adutti Sahadat Samagam’, 14 outstanding youngsters who have excelled in their fields – from science to sports and performing arts to social activism, entrepreneurship, Sikh religious arts and culture were also felicitated by the Sant Samaj of Punjab along with MP Satnam Singh Sandhu with the Vidyarthi Pratibha Puraskar.
These Sikh children included three-year-old spectacular ‘Gatka’ plater from Amritsar, Fateh Singh Gill, who won World Grand Prix Championships and the title of youngest Mr World Fit Kid Champion. The other children who were felicitated with awards for their extraordinary achievements in various fields included Jobanpreet Singh, Manpreet Singh, Sukhmandeep Singh, Harpreet Singh, Fateh Singh Gill, Prabhnur Kaur Dhillon, Jasmine Kaur, Meepansh Kumar Gupta, Kunwar Pratap, Teghbir Singh, Manchun Kumari, Jasmeet Kaur, Glory and Simranpreet Kaur. An exhibition dedicated to the martyrdom of the Sahibzadas was also organised, in which information related to their lives and Sikh history was showcased through books and photographs.
On the occasion, members of Sikh religious leaders said because of the Union government decision to declare 26 December as the martyrdom day to honor the valour and courage of Baba Zorawar Singh Ji and Baba Fateh Singh Ji – the young sons of Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji, programs, competitions and events are being organised all over the country to inform and educate citizens about the exemplary courage of the Sahibzades who accepted death to protect their faith and religion.
They said as 26 December is now being observed at the national level as martyrdom day, people from Jammu and Kashmir to Kanyakumari, are not only becoming aware of the brave sacrifices of Guru Gobind Singh Ji's sons which is inspiring future generations but are also getting reminded of the immense contribution of Sikh gurus and the Sikh tradition of sacrifice for protecting the honour of the nation.
Members of Sikh community and Sant Samaj said after a long wait of 40 years, Union government has provided justice to the victims of the 1984 anti-Sikh riots by putting the perpetrators behind bars and providing up to Rs 5 lakh compensation and jobs to more than 4,000 victims of these riots, which is ensuring the rehabilitation and economic development of the victimized Sikh families. They said as the Prime Minister shares a strong and close bond with the Sikh community, he fulfilled the 70-year-old pending demand of opening Kartarpur Corridor in 2019 and also initiated Hemkund Sahib Ropeway project as a part of the Union government initiatives to connect Sikh pilgrimage sites through air, rail, and road routes for making the pilgrimage to Guru Dhams (holy shrines) convenient and safe for the Sikh pilgrims.
On the occasion, Rajya Sabha Member Satnam Singh Sandhu said, “The martyrdom of Chote Sahibzades at a tender age remains one of the most poignant chapters in India’s history, symbolising unwavering courage in the face of tyranny. As a Sikh, I am thankful to the PM for announcing annual observance of this day, dedicated to remembering the sacrifice of the brave Sahibzades at the national level, during the Prakash Purab of Guru Gobind Singh Ji in January 2022. This martyrdom day is associated with courage, conviction and righteousness of Sahibzades whose lives and ideals will continue to motivate people for generations. This historic step is in line with the Union government’s mantra of ‘Sabka Sath, Sabka Vikas,’ which is inspired by the Sikh philosophy of ‘Sarbat Da Bhala’ that has ensured equal empowerment of all communities and inclusive governance over the past decade. Unprecedented steps have been taken the past 11 years for the propagation of Sikh Gurus’ teachings world over and the grand global celebrations of the 550th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev Ji, the 400th anniversary of Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji, and the 350th anniversary of Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji, have spread the teachings of the Sikh Gurus not just in India but almost every corner of the globe,”
“Union government has taken initiatives for the preservation and promotion of Sikh culture and heritage in the last 11 years with better road, train and air connectivity to all prominent Sikh shrines including special Guru Kripa Yatra train which connects five Sikh Takhts including ‘Hazur Sahib’, resumption of air service from Punjab for the convenience of pilgrims visiting Takht Shri Nanded Sahib and approval to ropeway project with Rs 2,730.13 crore for the convenience of pilgrims visiting Hemkund Sahib Ji, thus facilitating easy and hassle-free travel for Sikh Sangat to these sacred places. The Union government has also exempted langar services from GST and provided FCRA registration for Sri Harmandir Sahib to enable foreign donations by NRI Sikhs. Indian citizenship has been granted to 337 persecuted Sikhs from Afghanistan, Pakistan and Bangladesh under Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and 33 Sikhs have been honoured with Padma awards for their contribution in various fields. All these steps show the respect shown by the Union government towards the aspirations and contributions of the Sikh community,” he added.
