Chandigarh, February 20, 2026:The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Friday expressed serious concern over the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voter lists, with senior Punjab leader Neel Garg alleging that the process is being misused for political gains. He described the issue as a matter of grave public and institutional concern.
Addressing the media, Neel Garg said the Special Intensive Revision has drawn widespread attention and scrutiny.
“The issue has even reached the Supreme Court, which itself reflects the seriousness of the matter. Reports suggest that the SIR process may begin in Punjab from April, and we are closely monitoring all developments,” he stated.

He alleged that in several constituencies and polling booths where opposition voters are higher in number, attempts have been made to delete votes on a large scale. “Particularly, the Dalit community has been targeted. Using the voter revision process for political motives is completely unacceptable,” Garg said.
Clarifying the party’s position, he added that AAP has no objection to genuine and lawful corrections in the voter list. “If a voter has passed away or shifted elsewhere, their name should certainly be updated. There is no problem with proper revision carried out in a transparent and legal manner,” he said.
However, Garg strongly objected to what he termed as politically motivated deletions. “We will not tolerate politics in the name of revision. Deleting opposition votes in large numbers goes against democratic principles,” he asserted.
Issuing a firm warning, Garg said the BJP’s alleged attempts to implement such a strategy in Punjab would not succeed. “Every AAP volunteer will keep a close watch on each vote. We will create awareness at the grassroots level to ensure that no fraud takes place under the guise of SIR,” he added.
