11th plenary of Indian Journalists Union to be held in Vijayawada on March 28-29
Newly elected national president Balwinder Jammu and 9 leaders from Punjab to attend: Mann

The 11th plenary of Indian Journalists Union (IJU) will be held in Vijayawada (Amravati) (Andhra Pradesh) on March 28-29. IJU President K. Srinivas Reddy, Secretary General Balwinder Singh Jammu and Secretary D. Som Sundar said that Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu will be the chief guest and will inaugurate the first session. They said that several Union Ministers and Andhra Pradesh Ministers will also attend as special guests. Andhra Pradesh Union of Working Journalists is hosting the IJU plenary after 34 years. State Chairman Balbir Singh Jandu, President Jai Singh Chhibber, Vice President Rajan Mann, Secretary General Santokh Gill, Bindu Singh, Bhushan Sood, Davinder Singh Bhangu, Sukhnaib Singh Sidhu and Harjit Singh Kapurthala will represent Punjab.
Punjab and Chandigarh Journalists Union State Vice President Rajan Mann and Secretary General Santokh Gill while sharing information said that earlier the second IJU plenary was held in Vijayawada in 1992. Elected representatives of affiliated unions from 25 states, state presidents and general secretaries will participate in this plenary. The plenary will discuss professional issues, current situation of media in India, recent threats to media freedom and organizational matters. The conference will prepare a plan to advance the demands of journalists, which will include measures for the welfare of the profession and journalists. The plenary will also elect a new National Executive Committee for the next two years. The newly elected National President Balwinder Jammu and Secretary General D. Som Sundar will take over the reins.
