Asstt Commissioner chairs SPCA meeting, calls for stronger animal welfare measures
Ferozepur, March 19, 2026: The annual general body meeting (2025-26) of the Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) was held under the chairmanship of Assistant Commissioner (J) Ms Lindhya, IAS (Under Training), under the directions of Deputy Commissioner Deepshikha Sharma.
During the meeting, discussions were held with Dr Lakhwinder Singh, Deputy Director, Animal Husbandry Department-cum-General Secretary, SPCA, regarding arrangements being made for the welfare, protection and care of animals.
The Assistant Commissioner directed officials to ensure that the care and protection of animals is given priority. She also reviewed issues related to animal welfare, upkeep and safety, heard the problems being faced in this regard, and issued necessary directions for their resolution. During the meeting, she also sought information from officials about the ‘gaushalas’ functioning in the district.
She also discussed various important matters, including the disposal of complaints received by the SPCA, use of the loader available with the Municipal Council for lifting animals, enrolment of new SPCA members, compliance with SPCA rules during the catching of cattle by municipal authorities, awareness regarding guidelines for SPCA members, and the policy to increase anti-rabies vaccination and sterilization of pet and stray dogs along with the related causes and concerns.
She instructed officers of the Animal Husbandry Department to further strengthen the SPCA Committee. She also directed that activities related to the SPCA should be published on social media.
Appealing to the residents of the district, the Assistant Commissioner urged them to contact the Animal Husbandry Department if they wish to become members of the SPCA Committee. All committee members were present during the meeting.
