HC Judge inspects Fazilka Sub-Jail, Launches Video Conferencing for Legal Aid
Fazilka, March 21, 2026: Ms. Justice Lapita Banerji, Judge of the Punjab and Haryana High Court and Administrative Judge of Sessions Division Fazilka, conducted a comprehensive inspection of Sub-Jail, Fazilka on Saturday. She reviewed security arrangements, sanitation, jail administration, and basic facilities provided to inmates.
During the visit, Justice Banerji held a meeting with jail officials to assess welfare measures and also interacted with inmates to understand their grievances. She issued directions to ensure improved living conditions and better facilities.
On the occasion, she inaugurated a video conferencing facility at the jail’s Legal Aid Clinic, enabling inmates to access free legal services and consult their lawyers more efficiently, thereby easing access to justice.
Justice Banerji also inspected the jail kitchen, directing authorities to maintain proper hygiene and quality of food. She emphasized strengthening legal aid services and ensuring timely assistance to all inmates through the District Legal Services Authority.
Highlighting the importance of rehabilitation, she stressed the need for skill development and counselling programmes for prisoners. She also called for improvements in cleanliness and healthcare facilities.
District & Sessions Judge-cum-Chairman, DLSA Fazilka, Dharminder Paul Singla, Secretary Ruchi Swapan Sharma, Jail Superintendent Gurdit Singh, legal aid defence counsels and other officials were present during the visit. Singla expressed gratitude to Justice Banerji for her visit.
