Stubble burning sparks fire, Several huts reduced to ashes in Ferozepur
Ferozepur, May 2, 2026: A major fire incident near village Nawan Bare Ke in Ferozepur district left four to five huts completely gutted, causing losses worth lakhs. The blaze reportedly started after a farmer set fire to crop residue (stubble) in nearby fields, which quickly spread due to strong winds and engulfed the adjoining hutments.
Despite strict government instructions issued every year against stubble burning, violations continue, often leading to such dangerous incidents.
According to information, panic gripped the area as flames rapidly spread, forcing residents to flee to safety. A major tragedy was narrowly averted when locals managed to rescue an elderly man who was trapped inside a hut while having his meal. With timely intervention and the assistance of the fire brigade, the fire was eventually brought under control.
Around 30 to 40 huts are located in the vicinity, but fortunately, the fire was contained before it could spread further. However, valuable belongings of several families were destroyed in the incident, leaving them homeless.
Residents alleged that the fire was a direct result of stubble burning by the farmer. The farmer admitted to setting fire in his fields to prepare for paddy sowing but claimed that the flames spread unintentionally due to high wind speed. He denied any deliberate intent, but did not respond when questioned about compensation for the damages.
