210 players compete in Chandigarh State Gatka Championship at Panjab University

Chandigarh, May4, 2026: The 6th Chandigarh State Gatka Championship (Men & Women) was successfully held at Panjab University, drawing enthusiastic participation from across the region.
Organised by the Chandigarh Gatka Association, the two-day event (May 2–3) saw around 210 participants competing in Sub-Junior, Junior, and Senior categories. The championship featured individual and team Gatka fights, along with weapon demonstrations, highlighting the discipline and heritage of the traditional Sikh martial art.
Officials and organisers ensured smooth conduct of the event, contributing to its success. Addressing participants, Dr. Rakesh Malik encouraged players and assured continued support for the growth of Gatka.
Association Chairman Gurjot Singh Sawhney lauded the efforts of players and organisers, while Vice President Sukhjinder Singh Yogi said more large-scale events will be organised to promote the sport further.
General Secretary Simranjit Singh said the championship’s strong participation reflected growing interest among youth.
The event concluded on a high note, reinforcing efforts to preserve and promote Gatka among the younger generation.
