Canada: Three Punjabis deported on charges of extortion, probe against 78 others underway

Victoria (British Columbia), November 9, 2025: Canada has deported three Punjabis on charges of extortion cases and probe against 78 others is underway for their role in extortion calls and cases.
Though identity of those deported has not been disclosed.
Public Safety Minister and Solicitor General Nina Krieger has confirmed that authorities have also launched immigration investigations into 78 foreign nationals.
He said that those who are involved in extortion and terrorize our communities will be pursued, arrested and charged.
He further said that if individuals come into this country with the purpose of perpetrating violent extortion, they will be removed from Canada following all appropriate laws.
The provincial task force was launched in mid-September with 40 members from an array of law enforcement agencies, including the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA).
Cases of extortions particularly targeting South Asian Business community has been on rise in Canada particularly in British Columbia (BC).
In some cases, shop owners have received chilling phone calls demanding they pay millions of dollars, then had their businesses targeted with gunfire or arsons.
Local investigation authorities have linked some of the crimes to the Lawrence Bishnoi gang in India, which was designated as a terrorist organization by Canadian government in September 2025.
