50% US tariff comes into effect, read which sectors may face heat

New Delhi, August 27, 2025: US imposed 50% tariff will come into effect from today August 27 on India. This tariff may cause hardship in sectors such as textile, gems, jewellery, furniture, carpets and shrimps. Indian exports to US are upto $86.5 billion per year but it is expected to shrink to $49.6 billion by year 2026. 30 percent of exports will remain duty free, 4 percent will attract a tariff of 25 percent around 66 percent will invite a tariff of 50 percent hitting Indian exports.
With new tariffs Indian products in US markets will cost more.
Financial experts are of the opinion that immediate beneficiaries from tariff of India will be China, Turkey, Mexico and Vietnam. They have also opined that it is only India alone which will bear brunt of this tariff but US markets will face heat too. It will be very difficult for US government to contain inflation due to these tariffs.
