Auckland, October 20, 2025: In a landmark moment for both India and New Zealand, Nikhil Ravishankar, an Indian-origin technology and digital transformation expert, has been appointed as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Air New Zealand, marking the first time an Indian has ever held this position in the national carrier’s history.
Ravishankar officially assumed charge today and will now lead the airline’s 11,600 team members worldwide.
From Digital Visionary to Airline Chief
Before taking on the top role, Ravishankar served as Air New Zealand’s Chief Digital Officer, a position in which he spearheaded several groundbreaking initiatives. He played a pivotal role in the airline’s Covid Restart Programme, modernised its technology backbone, enhanced its loyalty programme, and strengthened customer digital platforms — steps that helped the airline emerge more innovative and resilient during one of the most turbulent periods in aviation history.
Ravishankar succeeds Greg Foran, who had been steering the airline through post-pandemic recovery.
Academic and Professional Excellence
A graduate of the University of Auckland, Ravishankar holds a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science and a Bachelor of Commerce (Honours). He joined Air New Zealand in 2021, bringing a strong background in digital innovation and leadership.
Prior to joining the airline, he served as Chief Digital Officer at Vector Limited, where he led the company’s digital and IT transformation and co-led its smart metering business. His career also includes six years with Accenture, where he served as Managing Director across Hong Kong, Australia, and New Zealand, as well as senior roles at Spark New Zealand.
Leadership Beyond the Boardroom
Ravishankar has contributed to several influential boards, including the University of Auckland’s Centre for Digital Enterprise (CODE), New Zealand Asian Leaders, Foundation Ventures, and The Auckland Blues Foundation. He has also been part of the AUT Outreach Influencer Network, promoting inclusive innovation and leadership.
