Navi Mumbai, November 2, 2025: India created history by winning their maiden ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup, defeating South Africa by 52 runs in the final at DY Patil Stadium, Navi Mumbai, on Sunday.
Shafali Verma starred with a brilliant all-round performance, scoring 87 runs and taking two wickets, while Deepti Sharma’s 5 for 39 dismantled the Proteas batting lineup, restricting them to 246 in pursuit of India’s 298 for 7.
Verma’s stellar contribution earned her the Player of the Match award, as India finally ended their long wait since finishing runners-up in 1982, marking a glorious chapter in women’s cricket history.
