National Sikh Campaign condemns Capitol Hill riots, terms it a violent attempt to undermine democracy
Washington, January 15, 2021 : National Sikh Campaign has condemned Capitol Hill riots and termed them as an attempt to undermine democracy in the country.
In a statement Amritpal Singh Chairman of Board of National Sikh Campaign said that they were shocked and outraged by the violent attempt to undermine our democracy by unhinged rioters aided by partisan politicians and unscrupulous media figures. He said that these actions that undermine the core integrity of the United States government cannot be tolerated under any circumstance.
He said that Our country’s Democratic system has inspired nations and the stability and integrity of our government and it is why people around the world – including many Sikhs – have decided to leave their native country and call the United States home.
He also called upon the U.S. Senate to support and defend the constitution and condemn the unhinged rioting in the strongest possible terms. He said that our politics should focus on solving problems not deepening divisions between our citizens. He urged Congress and the Senate to commit to put sectarian divisions aside and work together for the American people.
Amritpal Singh also urged Sikh panth to do ardaas for our nation. He said that people should pray that our country finds the strength to listen to each other and find the fortitude to let the truth and the values that underpin our nation help put America back together.
He said that the deadly Capitol Hill riots have underscored the urgency of the National Sikh Campaign’s work to share the values and contributions of our community. It is clear that we have a lot more work to do as a country to realize our vision that all people are created equal. We hope that by sharing Guru Nanak’s message of equality and tolerance, values that also serve as the foundation of America, we can be a positive force to help heal our nation and realize its highest values.
