Fatehgarh Sahib. June 03, 2020: The district unit of PCMS Association today protested against the decision of the State government to hike the MBBS fee. The doctors of civil hospital Fatehgarh Sahib wore black badges.
Dr. Manohar Singh Secretary of PCMS Association said that there is shortage of Medical Colleges in State and further by increasing the fees the government has taken an ‘anti-people and anti-poor decision’ which will make medical education impossible for the middle class and economically weaker sections. He said that the fee of MBBS courses in Punjab is already the highest in India. It is around 55% higher than other states. Non-meritorious students from rich families will now get admission, he said.
He said that the government is filling its own pockets by hiking students’ fee at a time when they are working as frontline warriors while combating the Covid-19 outbreak. Instead of hiking the fee, the government should increase doctors’ salaries and inters’ stipends. He demanded immediate roll back of the decision. Dr. Navjot Singh, Dr. Manjot Kaur, Dr. Navchetan Singh Bajwa, Dr. Jasmeet Kaur, Dr. Parminder Singh, Dr. Rakesh Bali, Dr. Amrit Pal Singh, Dr. Alka Massy and Dr. Gurpartap Singh along with staff joined the protest.
