Ontario (Canada), May 8, 2024: Canadian journalist and author Loveen Gill penned a heartfelt note on her first Mother's Day as a mother to her nine-month-old son Azaad. This year, Mother's Day will be observed on 12 May 2024.
Sharing it on Facebook, Loveen Gill wrote" Being on this side of the fence – My first Mother’s day as a Mom (My note to Azaad, 9 month young Cub)
I’ve appreciated my mother more than any other time of my life, in the past 9 months of my adventurous, spiritual, playful, tiring, restless and sleepless journey of parenthood. The labour pains, caesarean section, uterine contractions during breast feeding seem like a thing that never happened. Well, it's not a favour to you. It's a powerful, natural instinct that whatever I do for you makes me happy!
We’re 3 siblings and I’m the middle one. More than once, this year, I have said to my mom, “Mom you didn’t have to give me birth and go through all these hard times of raising me. I would be okay without being born than to having troubled you so much.”
As childish as it sounds, hey, that’s the beauty of it.
Well, I don’t mind a day of yours all to -you and I. For Mother's Day, I don't want you to take me out for dinner, send me flowers or do a Facebook post telling me how thankful you're to me and that I'm a Deity, Superwoman, Goddess of Sacrifice etc etc etc. I'm just a person with needs, wants, desires, expectations, a heart that needs love and a body that gets tired.
For each Mother’s Day here are some things that I want. I’ve enough purses, dresses, shower gels and everything materialistic that a person may like as a gift. I won’t prefer to go for dinner on this day, for it being so crowded anyway. I’d rather have you cook for me, yeah I expect you to know how so, after all, it doesn’t always need women’s hands to put the pan on a stove. We may just pack some goodies and go for a stroll together. We may picnic together. We may pack our roller-blades and go out camp somewhere. I’d love to swim with you out in the lake. Jumping from a cliff into the lake will be fun. We can bike miles and miles through the trails. You can share your favourite ideas, dreams and imagination with me. You can share your favorite book with me so that I can see the world from your angle too. On Mother’s day, you must show me the ways to keep myself updated with the time and technology of your times.
Azaad, you must share your life, your likes, your dislikes and all your endeavours with me, I will update myself to understand it all. With each year our friendship must grow!! And that phrase which boy dislike to be used on them “Mama’s baby”- I hope you’ll take pride in being a mamma’s baby forever, and why not?
Azaad, Mother’s day for us shall be our friendship day! And we’ll both nurture our friendship as the days and years go by.
Needless to say “I love you”! I love me! You’re a piece of me. Made up of me!
Happy First Friendship Day aka Mother’s Day to us!
Hugs, Kisses, Rainbows, Squirrels, Flowers, Butterflies, Our Apple Tree,
Your’s Amma,
Loveen
