Mohali, May 9, 2024:
The Punjab Senior Vets Association in an executive committee meeting held here to deliberate on the problems of retired officers condemned the government for not addressing the genuine concerns of retirees.
Prominent among others present in the meeting were former Chief Executive Officer of Punjab Gau Sewa Commission Dr Nitin Kumar Gupta, member Punjab State Veterinary Council Dr Gurinder Singh Walia, former Director Animal Husbandry Punjab Dr Sanjeev Khosla, former Deputy Directors Dr Desh Deepak Goyal, Dr Narinder Pal Thaman, Dr N K Sachdeva, Dr Raj Kumar Arora, Dr Jaswinder jit Singh, Dr Shashi Saini, Dr Anil Sharma, Dr Jagjit Singh and Dr Madan Mohan Singla.
The Senior Vets urged the Punjab Chief Minister to direct the finance department to fulfill the demands of retired Animal husbandry Officers who had played stellar role in uplifting the rural economy during their active service.
It was deciphered that the time for recovery of commuted portion of pension which presently was 15 years was too long as the rate of interests had fallen drastically as compared to year 2010 when formula for recovery of commuted pension was devised. At prevalent rates of interest recovery of commuted portion of pension was possible in approximately 11 years. Necessary notification to stop recovery of commuted portion of pension should be issued immediately by the Punjab government to avoid unnecessary litigation and wastage of time and resources.
The payment of arrears on enhanced leave encashment to pensioners who had retired post 2016 had not yet been made by the government.
Besides , it was noted that the government had not paid the arrears of revised pay as per sixth Punjab Pay commision recommendations and many DA installments were pending.
Step motherly treatment had been made with pre- 2016 retirees as their pension was revised from 1-1-2016 by using multiplier of 2.45 instead of 2.59.
The state executive also decided to explore the possibility of filing a court case for directing the government to give promotion increment to Veterinarians (SVO) who had served on senior positions with additional charge of Deputy Director/ Joint Director. A committee comprising of Dr Nitin Kumar , Dr Desh Deepak Goyal and Dr N K Sachdeva was formed for filing legal cases.
