Amritsar , July 16, 2014 : Eye brows are being raised in Sikh politics on this hasty edict of Akal Takht as this is one of the rare of the rarest edict from Akal Takht as all the three prominent Sikhs faces from Haryana were excommunicated without affording them opportunity of being heard by Akal Takht. Akal Takht Sahib excommunicated Haryana Sikh Leaders including finance minister Harmohinder Singh Chatha, Jagdish Singh Jhinda and Didar Singh Nalwi from Sikh Panth on charges of defying the directive of the Akal Takht and forming the Haryana Sikh Gurudwara Parbandhak Committee (HSGPC).Jathedar Akal Takhat Giani Gurbachan Singh said they will remain excommunicated as long as they do not approach the Akal Takht and ask for forgiveness. The decision was taken in the meeting of five Sikh high priests on Wednesday.
As per the customs and traditions of Akal Takht, guilty persons are always asked to appear at Akal Takht for clarifications not for one time even number of chances afforded. If he failed to appear or proved guilty during the process of chain of hearings, in such circumstances Akal Takht takes such a harsh decision of excommunication. But here Akal Takht without summoning and hearing them slapped the decision of excommunication from Sikh fold on these three Sikhs. Jathedar Akal Takhat Giani Gurbachan Singh said they will remain excommunicated as long as they do not approach the Akal Takht and ask for forgiveness. The decision was taken in the meeting of five Sikh high priests on Wednesday. However, Jathedar Akal Takht Gyani Gurbachan Singh claimed that all the three Sikhs excommunicated were earlier asked to appear at Akal Takht but they hurled insult to highest Sikh temporal seat by ignoring the directions from Akal Takht. They also issued objectionable statements before the media against the Sikh customs and Akal Takht, Jathdear quipped. Adding further JathEdar said that these Sikhs were time and again asked to appear before the Akal Takht but never bothered and remained instrumental for the formation of so called separate HSGPC. Jathedar said that the executive committee of SGPC Amritsar, various Sikh outfits including Nihang jatehbadi, Dam Dami Taksal also strongly submitted written opinions for the excommunication of these three Sikh faces from Sikh fold for anti Sikh Community activities. On being asked how they could be pardoned, Jathedar said that first they have to appear before the Akal Takht like humble Sikhs to undergo religious punishment and thereafter they could be pardoned otherwise nobody in the Sikh community as well in Sikh politics would keep any relations and dealing with them. Meanwhile holding Mr. Parkash Singh Badal fully responsible for the present mess within the Sikh community, the Radical Sikh outfit Dal Khalsa has termed the edict of the Akal Takht excommunicating the Sikh leaders of Haryana as unprincipled and declared it unacceptable. Dal Khalsa head H S Dhami and spokesperson Kanwar Pal Singh in their strong reaction said the series of developments starting from SAD’s core committee meet at Chandigarh last evening up till the declaration made by Takht Jathedar has imprint of Badals. Radical Sikhs outfit alleged the Hukamnama released from the Akal Takht was drafted and finalized by SAD’s core committee in Chandigarh yesterday. They said the so-called resolution passed in the SGPC meet was also prepared on the instructions of Badal and executive members were compelled to sign on dotted lines. Blaming Parkash Singh Badal and Sukhbir Singh Badal for blatantly misusing the seat and seal of the Akal Takht to fix their adversaries, they fired a salvo against both father-son for making jathedar Akal Takht as their subservient and the SGPC as an extension counter of their ‘Akali Dal’. They felt Jagdish Singh Jhinda, Didar Singh Nalvi and third Sikh have been excommunicated arbitrarily and with no fault of them. Asking for their right to manage gurdwaras independent of Badals was no way a sinâ€, said they.
