Khanna (Ludhiana), December 10, 2014: Asia’s biggest grain market “Khanna†today played host to four matches of the Fifth Kabaddi World Cup 2014 matches for the first time today. The teams played in front of jam packed grounds of A S College, Khanna. Mr Sharanjit Singh Dhillon, Irrigation Minister, Punjab, was the chief guest on the occasion. While addressing the spectators, he said, that Deputy CM Mr Sukhbir Singh Badal had a dream of taking Kabaddi to international heights. He said that some people did not believe what the Deputy CM had dreamt of but this thing has now turned into reality. He said that now nations like Argentina, Azerbaijan, Denmark, Iran are participating in this Kabaddi World Cup. Mr Dhillon said that Mr Sukhbir Singh Badal sent Sports Department coaches to different parts of globe for training Kabaddi teams. He said that it is due to his efforts that Kabaddi is now an international sport. Mr Sikandar Singh Malooka, Rural Development Minister, Punjab, said that it is due to the efforts of Shiromani Akali Dal-Bharatiya Janta Party government that fifth successful Kabaddi World Cup is being organised for the fifth time and in jam packed stadiums. He said that day is not far when our mother sport Kabaddi would be a part of Olympics. Prominent among those present on the occasion included Mr Ranjit Singh Talwandi, ex MLA and Halqa incharge Khanna, Mr Mahesh Inder Singh Grewal, media advisor to CM, Deputy Commissioner Mr Rajat Agarwal, SSP Mr Gurpreet Singh Gill, ADC Khanna Mr Ajay Sood, ADC Ludhiana Mrs Amrit Kaur Gill, besides several others. Eminent Punjabi singer and Actor Sarabjit Cheema enthralled the audience. MATCH 1: WOMEN SECTION: DENMARK DEFEAT AZERBAIJAN BY 40-17: In the first match of the day, Denmark defeated Azerbaijan by 40-17. The Denmark team maintained the lead since beginning and by half time, they were leading by 23-5. For Denmark, raiders Mile scored 8 and Sukanaya scored 2 points and stoppers Camilla scored 9, Permille scored 3 and Perima scored 5 points. For Azerbaijan, raiders Javarzade scored 4 and Rusten scored 1 point, while stoppers Rahima scored 5 and Liyla scored 4 points. MATCH 2: MEN SECTION: IRAN DEFEAT AUSTRALIA 59-29: Iran team once again proved crowd favorites as they registered their second consecutive win by defeating Australia by a big margin of 59-29. The Iran team maintained lead in the match since beginning and by half time, they were leading by 26-16. Iran raiders Rehman scored 8 points, Paymee scored 6 while stoppers Aliveza scored 7 and Mojaba scored 5. Australian raiders Taranpreet scored 11, Navpreet scored 5 points and stopper Tejinder scored 3 points.
