Amritsar, May 26, 2017: To commemorate the 33rd year of infamous Indian Army Operation Blue Star in which thousands of Sikh pilgrims were martyred, AISSF announced to hold "Self Determination Saheedi March" on June 06.
"Self Determination March" will commence from Gurdwara Shaheedan Baba Deep Singh Ji and will culminate at Akal Takhat Sahib where the family members of those who were killed by the Indian Army during June 1984 will be honored.
The controversy between the disgruntled Sikh community and Indian Government is the Article 25 of the constitution of India which classifies Sikhs as Hindus. Offended by this constitutional assault on independent status of Sikhism and amalgamation of Sikh identity with Hinduism, Sant Bhindranwale initially lead the movement for abolition of Article 25 which ultimately culminated in demanding Sikhs right for self determination .
AISSF president Karnail Singh Peer Mohamad also appealed to all Sikh people and organizations to respect the memory of those murdered in the heinous crime happened on June 6th, by peacefully reciting Gurbani and not by doing anything which portrays Sikh people in bad light, especially not to fight among ourselves.
