Chandigarh, March 1, 2018: Eminent literary and folk art personality prof. Rajpal singh passed away in PGI today. He was admitted in PGI for the treatment of chest infection last week. He is survived by wife Prof Kuldip Kaur Tiwana and son Gorki.
Prof. Rajpal (76) retired as lecturer of from Government Mohindra College Patiala. He also taught at Sunam and Sangrur colleges. He belonged to the Bagrian family of Punjab and was closely related to Mohali SAD leader Sukhdev Singh Patwari.
The Cultural Affairs and Tourism Minister, Punjab, Navjot Singh Sidhu has expressed profound grief at his demise. He said that Prof. Rajpal rendered valuable services while serving as the Secretary General of the Punjab Kala Parishad, President of Punjab Sahit Akademi and Secretary of Punjab Sangeet Natak Akademi.
The minister said that Prof. Rajpal served the cause of Punjab, Punjabi and Punjabiat all his life which was evident from the way he participated in the meetings held to finalise the cultural policy of Punjab. He was also a dedicated teacher who taught the students with utmost sincerity during his service. Sidhu prayed to the Almighty to grant peace to the departed soul and courage to the bereaved family to bear this loss.
Meanwhile, the Chairman of Punjab Kala Parishad Dr. Surjit Patar while condoling the demise of Prof. Rajpal Singh termed it as a big loss to Punjabi Folk Art, Culture and Literature.
