New Delhi, April 25, 2018: Senior dalit MLAs from Punjab on Wednesday met the Congress president Rahul Gandhi to highlight alleged discrimination in denying them representation in the Cabinet during its recent expansion.
Led by Technical Education minister Charanjit Singh Channi, a three-member delegation including Deputy Speaker, Vidhan Sabha Ajaib Singh Bhatti and Tanda Urmar MLA Sangat Singh Gilzian met the party president.
Sources told babushahi.com that Priyanka Gandhi was also present in the meeting. Her presence has lent seriousness to the move of these sulking leaders.
Congress MLA Sangat Singh Giljian in an open revolt mood
During the hour-long meeting, these Punjab leaders raised several issues of alleged discrimination against dalits and backward classes and sought redressal of their grievances. Overlooking their interests in the recent Cabinet expansion too was one of them.
Sources also said that the delegation expressed apprehension that the dalits and backward classes could again be discriminated against while appointing heads of various corporations and boards in time to come. The members demanded that at least one-third of such posts should be given to these sections.

Rahul, it is learnt, has assured the delegation that their demanded would be considered sympathetically. Before today’s meeting, Channi and MLA Raj Kumar Verka along with four other MLAs had presented their case before AICC General Secretary Ashok Gehlot on the instruction of Rahul Gandhi. The meeting on Wednesday was follow up of this one.
