Punjab farmer falls into Ravi, feared to have flown towards Pakistan

Ludhiana, Sept, 25, 2018: A Punjab farmer of border village, who accidentally fell into river Ravi on Tuesday, is feared to have possibly been swept away towards Pakistan in Ajnala Tehsil of Amritsar district on Tuesday.
Balwinder Singh (53) of village Ghonewal under the jurisdiction of the police station Ramdas was working on working on his fields on the river bank when the incident occurred.
The spot where the incident took place is about 4 kilometres up stream from where the meandering river enters Pakistan.
A missing person report was registered at the police station, Ramdas, confirmed SHO Mantej Singh while speaking to babushahi.com over phone.
The incident took place in the afternoon and it was brought to the notice to the BSF authorities who shared the information with the Pakistan Rangers so that he may be saved if found have inadvertently crossed over into their territory.
Deputy Commissioner, Amritsar, Kamaldeep Singh Sangha is also learnt to have spoken to the DIG, BSF to help trace and save him.
Till late evening, Balwinder Singh could not be traced as the river was in full spate owing to heavy rains. Some eyewitnesses told the police that he was seen being swept away in the river towards Pakistani territory.
Balwinder Singh is known as a good swimmer and was seen holding some plastic container when he was spotted in the river by the eyewitness.
