SDM Nayan Jassal inspects work of first level checking of VVPATs

Hoshiarpur, 16 November 2018: According to the Election Commission of India guidelines, VVPATs used in the district during the 2019 Lok Sabha elections have reached in the districts. First level checking of machines is being done by the company engineers in the presence of recognized political parties. Under this, SDM cum ARO Dr Nayan Jassal visited virsa vihar to inspect the work of First Level Checking.
In this regard, she said that the work is being done by BEL Bangalore based company, Out of 990 VVPATs, 288 were checked. 281 were found ok, while 7 were defective.
Dr Nayan Jassal further said “VVPAT machines will be used in all polling stations for the general elections in 2019”. VVPAT allows a paper slip to be generated bearing the name and symbol of the candidate along with a recording of the vote in the control unit so that, in case of any dispute, the slip can be counted to verify the result being shown on the EVM, she said.
Under the VVPAT, a printer is attached to the balloting unit and kept in the voting compartment. “The paper slip remains visible on VVPAT for seven seconds through a transparent window,” Dr Nayan said.
