Speaker visited flood affected villages of Sri Anandpur Sahib

Nangal, 21 August, 2019: Punjab Vidhan Sabha Speaker Rana K.P. Singh has said that due to incessant rainfall in the hilly regions of Himachal Pradesh 1.80 lakh cusecs water entered into Swan, Sarsa rivers and other rivulets, causing flood like situations in different parts of Punjab. The possibility of floods, owing to the quantum of water released by Bhakra Dam is extremely less.
Today, Speaker Rana K.P.Singh was interacting with correspondents after visiting flood affected villages around Nangal alongwith Deputy Commissioner Dr. Sumit Jarangal and other officers. He said that there is no arrangement of checking the water in rivers and seasonal water bodies flowing from Himachal Pradesh due to incessant rain in the hilly area. This water hits different areas of Punjab by merging in Sutlej River. He stated that floods of the recent past are natural calamity. This water flooded the various areas of Punjab and it has become natural calamity. He added that all should appeal to the central Govt. to grant every possible help to Himachal Govt. to construct Dam on Swan and Sarsa rivers so that floods in Punjab be prevented permanently and he said Dam should be operated by B.B.M.B as its part. He added that water accumulated during rainy season be discharged throughout the year so that such type of conditions could not emerge again.
While appreciating the help provided by District Administration Roopnagar to the affected villages, Speaker Rana K.P. Singh stated that it was due to the efforts put in by the District Deputy Commissioner Dr. Sumit Jarangal and NDRF teams that lives of about 500 people hit by floods could be saved. Many villages such as Burj Hariwal, Gajjpur, Chandpur are still inaccessible. The Administration is providing fodder for the animals and other essential commodities to the people. He further stated that in another 2-3 days financial relief too would be extended to each affected person. He stated that such serious situation arose for the first time after 1988. During such time, the social organisations are also extending all possible help. He said that we are always there to help the affected people. He today visited the affected villages and enquired about their welfare and issued directions to the officers to provide them all kind of help. Today Speaker Rana K.P.Singh paid a visit to villages Bela Dhiani, Gohlani, Daula Basti, Singhpur Palasi, Bela Shiv Singh, Bhallri, Swamipur etc.
On this occasion Deputy Commission, Dr. Sumit Jarangal said that the officials of administration are round the clock standing firm to provide public facilities. He said that every kind of necessary provisions are being provided to the affected people.
SDM Kanu Garg, Ashok Swamipur, Ramesh Dasgrain, Kamal Dev Joshi, Rinku Baas, Nazar Singh, Rakesh Chaudhary, Amritpal Dhiman, DSP Davinder Singh, XEN Drainage Rupinder Singh Pabla, Tehsildar Ram Krishan etc. were present on this occasion alongwith Deputy Commissioner Dr. Sumit Jarangal.
