He said that setting fire to crop residues decreases soil fertility while pollution generated by the smoke of straw also increases the diseases among the masses. He urged the farmers to join the farming awareness camps being organized by the Agriculture Department from time to time to integrate wheat, paddy waste into the soil.
While farmer Sawinder Singh, sharing his experience, said that he owns 18 acres of agriculture land in village Awa on which he cultivates wheat and paddy. He said that he used RMB Plough and rotavator to mix the paddy stubble in soil before sowing of wheat crop. He said that by doing so, the average yield of wheat has increased by 2 quintals per acre and this year the paddy yield is expected to increase by 5 quintals per acre.
Sawindar Singh said that by adopting in-situ crop management techniques water needs of crop for irrigation further declined and hence we could be able to save our one another precious natural resource by adopting this technique.
