Chandigarh, October 15, 2017: The Haryana Chief Minister, Manohar Lal, has said that while the opposition parties never paid any attention to the problem of canal water the state government is working hard to provide water right up to the tail-ends of canals in the state.
He was interacting with media persons after inspecting the pump house No.1 on the Loharu Canal in Charkhi Dadri.
Laying the foundation stone of the project to rehabilitate Loharu Canal and distributaries Mehda, Badhwana, Kitlana and Atela, he said work on Loharu Canal would be completed at a cost of over Rs 1.35 crore, Mehda distributary Rs 1.82 crore, Badhwana distributary Rs 1.22 crore and Atela distributary Rs 1.49 crore. After completion of these projects, water capacity of the canal would increase and sufficient water would be made available to the farmers for irrigation.
The Chief Minister said the lifting system in Loharu Canal became obsolete about 40 years ago but no government took note of it which made the canal go dry resulting in water not reaching many villages. The present government is working to provide water till the tail-ends of Behal, Badhda and Loharu canals in southern Haryana. Repair work at the cost of Rs 26 crore would soon be started on pump houses on Loharu Canal.
Earlier, he inaugurated the railway over a bridge built at the cost of Rs 22 crore on the Dadri–Bhiwani-Rohtak road bypass.
