Rupnagar January 18, 2017: District administration is fully committed to carry out fearless assembly election. In this regard the administration has urged upon the people to exercise their voting rights compulsorily for the upcoming assembly election on 4th February to strengthen the very foundation of democracy.
Deputy commissioner-cum-district electoral officer Karnesh Sharma told that through Sweep activities, it is being ensured that cent percent people exercise their voting rights. All possible arrangement are being made for the smooth conduct of elections. Adequate arrangements of transportation and smooth access to the polling booths for the handicap voters are also being ensured
Sharma further told that street plays, Stage shows and social media are the mediums through which voter are being motivated to cast their votes. Further in this regard the Deputy Commissioner himself and all RO’s vowed to go to slum dwellers colonies on 22 January personally to motivate people to cast their voting rights surely.A marathon race is also being organized on January 25 to commemorate the voters day. On this day all district level Returning officer and Supervisor will take oath to exercise the voting right, he added.
The district electoral officer also informed that 51 polling stations are being contrived as all ladies staff polling station under the ‘pink colour theme’ . Apart from this all 613 polling booths in the district will also be equipped with “selfie points” where the individuals can take their selfies at the polling station.
Sharma while informing discussed that 430 handicap voter have been identified in the district, are being motivated for 100 percent participation in exercising their voting rights. In this regard Ms. Santosh Virdhi the district social welfare officer is deployed as nodal officer. The Ambuja Cement company’s help is also sought after for this purpose. All polling booths are equipped with wheel chairs and all kinds of transport facilities for the handicap voters.
Sharma also informed that 5 child development officers of the district such as Ms. Charnjeet Kaur CDPO Anandpur Sahib Phone no. 98554-41704,Ms. Kirshna Attri CDPO Shri Chamkaur Sahib Phone no. 81460-88998, Ms. Parvinder Kaur CDPO Nurpur Bedi Phone no. 94631-02264 and Ms. Amrita Singh CDPO Ropar Phone no. 99144-03733 are respectively deployed as nodal officer for the handicap voters. He urged upon all handicap voters to consult these personals for any kind of trouble during the casting of vote.
